ABOUT

Born in Spain, Begoña Toledo (a.k.a Boxhead) is an internationally grown artist whose work is inspired by urbanism, architecture and our emotional responses to society’s rules.

She started her street art career while living in Amsterdam as a result of her interest in street art's aesthetics and social changing potential.

Her work can be seen in the streets of The Netherlands, USA, Spain and England.

"Boxhead" was born back in 2009. She soon became well known for this character and translated it into canvases, 3D work and NFTs, allowing her to expand the meaning and fictional world context of "Boxhead". As the name estates, the character has a box (usually a common cardboard box) over her head.  For the artist, Boxhead represents all of us, the box holds our inner space, our fears, our dreams and ideals, and that part of us that is so hard, or nearly impossible to share with others. The box gives Boxhead anonymity and a mysteriously approachable vulnerability at the same time. As Stephanie Davies, arts and trends blogger says: "Boxhead’s paintings question our notions of identity and self-hood."
